Mission StatementThe primary mission of the Drug Court is to break the cycle of addiction and rehabilitate substance-abusing offenders by utilizing governmental agencies and community resources. The St. Charles Parish Drug Court has been established to enhance the quality of life and to provide a safer community, thereby reducing social costs related to substance abuse.
The St. Charles Parish Adult Drug Court, which started in 2001, has seen over 100 people successfully complete a rigorous five phase program which involves intensive outpatient counseling, frequent court appearances, AA meetings, monitoring via regular drug testing, obtaining a GED, and gaining and holding steady employment. While the minimum length of treatment in Drug Court is 16 to 18 months, many clients are in Drug Court for 24 months or longer prior to graduation. (Additional information on the Drug Court movement can be found at the website of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, www.NADCP.org.)
