COUNCIL APPROVES NO TOSS ORDINANCE
Members of the St. Charles Parish Council passed a no toss ordinance at the December 2, 2019 Council Meeting held at the Courthouse in Hahnville, La.
The ordinance, which became effective January 1, 2020, gave residents the ability to request printed material not to be tossed on personal property. If residents are interested in signing up, they can do so by going to the special sections tab under the Government page on the parish website (stcharlesparish-la.gov/notossordinance).
“Unsolicited newspapers have become a nuisance in our parish. Quite often residents have complained of the unwanted newspapers piling up in the driveways of elderly or even ending up in storm drains,” said District VII Councilwoman Julia Fisher-Perrier. “I’m excited that we’ve been able to provide a solution to this problem and appreciate the support of the Council and the Administration in getting this done.”
The no toss ordinance will be enforced by the Planning and Zoning Department and violations could result in misdemeanor or subjected to fine.
