ABOUT SHOOTING STARS BASKETBALL
St. Charles Parish youth with mental or physical challenges are able to play recreational basketballl, organized by The Parks and Recreation Department.
Teams are set up according to abilities rather than age. They can include as many as 15 to 20 players who participate in basketball. Each player gets a chance to dribble, shoot, and pass, All players play the full duration of the game. No score is kept during games.
The program encourages the use of “buddies” for Shooting Star players. Buddies assist players on the court.
The program is available to mentally or physically challenged boys and girls ages 5 to 18 or until completion of high school. For more information contact The Parks and Recreation Department Assistant Director Therese Theriot at (985) 783-5090.
