The mission of the Department of Waterworks is to efficiently provide a sufficient amount of potable water and water for fire protection to the citizens of St. Charles Parish.
The Department of Waterworks bills and collects for water, wastewater, garbage, sewer installations and Louisiana state sales tax. Utility bills are sent out to approximately 19,000 customers each month and more than $15 million is collected annually. All customers are metered, including public entities. All water meters, including vacant accounts, are read each month by meter readers that utilize computerized devices. Reading errors have been reduced in recent years.
