Parish Officials attended a press conference and ribbon cutting in LaPlace on Oct. 8 for the expansion of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s (DOTD) Motorist Assistance Patrol (MAP) services into the River Parishes.

This expansion, jointly funded by the Regional Planning Commission (RPC) and DOTD allows MAP operators to provide motorist assistance for disabled vehicles, including gasoline, jump starts, tire changes, or tow services to a safe location.

"Because this MAP expansion allows for more road side assistance, residents are able to look forward to a safer and improved quality of life. Even if that is something as simple as less traffic on their way home from work," said St. Charles Parish President Larry Cochran. "Presidents Robottom, Roussel, and I work closely together, and this expansion is another example of how our partnership has been able to make a positive impact in the lives of residents throughout the river parish communities."

According to the RPC, MAP services are now available between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., 7 days a week, on the I-10 corridor from Airline Hwy (Exit 187) near Gramercy to Michoud Blvd (Exit 248) in New Orleans East.

“For many years, our MAP vehicles have been working to safeguard Louisiana drivers, assist with incident response, and restore traffic flow as safely and quickly as possible,” said Dr. Shawn Wilson DOTD Secretary. “DOTD is proud to bring this successful program to the River Parishes.”

Additionally, this expansion will allow patrols to work side by side with the Louisiana State Police and local parish first responders to improve safety along the corridor and keep traffic flowing smoothly. “MAP services will be an essential asset for our troopers and local first responders when working crashes and other incidents on the Interstate,” said Captain Donovan Archote, Commander of the Louisiana State Police Troop B.

St. Charles Parish residents are now able to utilize these services by calling *LSP (*577) from their phones. More information on MAP services in the New Orleans Region and other Louisiana metropolitan areas can be found here.

The mission of St. Charles Parish government is to provide high quality, efficient services to sustain and enhance the quality of life for all residents of St. Charles Parish.
