Have you ever wondered what you can do to help the parish prepare for severe weather? Here is a quick list of things you can do that will greatly help yourself and your parish if heavy rain and winds threaten our area:

1. Clean your Ditch and Catch Basins

We’ve said time and again that when residents help ensure that ditches and catch basins are clean ahead of heavy rain it makes a difference. It’s simple: pump stations cannot pump water out if it never gets to them. If you are unable to clean these call (985) 783-5050 and we will dispatch our crews to do so. Also, please be sure to pull in any objects in your yard (trash cans, garden decor) that could become a projectile during strong winds.

2. Subscribe to Entergy Outage Notifications

Subscribing to Entergy Outage alerts here is the best way to know the status of power in your area. You can also visit their outage map here.

3. Stay Tuned to Parish Channels

We here in the Public Information Office constantly push out information ahead of, during and after any type of an emergency. This could include closures, cancelations, high water notices and protective actions. Get it all by watching SCP-TV, visiting stcharlesparish-la.gov, subscribing for e-notifications or following the parish on these social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. You can also sign up for emergency notifications from the EOC at scpemergencyalerts.com.
