St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Robert Brown was named the Under Armor Junior NBA Coach of the Year for the state of Louisiana at the Feb. 23 New Orleans Pelicans game.

“I’ve watched Robert coach and mentor young kids for a number of years and have seen these kids go on to play professional sports, complete college and be productive citizens because of his influence,” said Parish President Larry Cochran. “I am glad to see someone this deserving and this passionate for coaching win an award for the mark he has made.”

Brown has served as the assistant director of the parish’s recreation department for 23 years and has volunteered as a coach in their programs for nearly 40 years. The Junior NBA Committee voted him to receive this award.
